Default Hayling Island

Did anyone visit the Sunshine Holiday Camp Hayling Island. I went with my family for the Easter 9 day special around 6 years on the run.

It was on the same lines as Butlins although there was never a funfair and their were yellow coats instead of red coats.

Default Mill Rythe / Sunshine

Hey I currently work at Mill Rythe (The former Sunshine Holiday Camp) You're right, there was never a funfair but a miniture light Train was introduced during it's Sunshine days. Infact, it's only over the last 10 years that Mill Rythe has been adapted to cater for kids better.
Renowned Holidays bought Mill Rythe in the late 90's and decided to sell the ever popular Train to a Private owner and the memories vanished with it. Many regulars of the Sunshine can only just remember it. You can now find the original train and it's original track lines on Hayling island Sea Front!
Renowned have just sold out

Mill Rythe is now owned by the ever-growing "Hollybush Hotels"
The Buy-out was confirmed onMonday the 25th of April 2005 at 12:01pm.

I remember Mill Rythe from it's days as a Warners camp, before Warners went all adults only. I used to have great holidays there, alternating Mill Rythe one year and Sinah Warren the next. Would love to go back there one day to see how the place has changed.

I was a Yellowcoat at Sunshine in the far off year of 1964! Before that, I was a Redcoat at Butlins Ayr. Still live in Ayrshire, - My maiden name was Kay Morrison. 1964 was the year that Rick Parfitt of Status Quo was a Yellowcoat - he was only 15 at the time!!

Default I went there in 1997

It belonged to Haven then. We went with the local tenants association for Tinsell & Turkey. The train was there then. A friend of mine drove it. The chalets were lovely, ours faced onto the nursery. It was right at the back of the camp, the furthest from the dining room.

Default Sunshine

I worked there in 1982 and 1983. !983 was when they introduced the yellowcoats, they were Green in 1982.

My parents still visit the camp,. and say it hasnt changed radically. My kids are more into Pontins these days. Mill Rythe doesnt have enough for them to do unfortunately, and we like self catering.

Smile Hello Kay!

You won't remember me as I was just another kid brought to the camp by his parents! But what a wonderful time we had. I remember the 'yellowcoats' Were they not called canaries? I believe I remember an 'Auntie Mo' and also yourself. Both dark haired ladies.
I also recall the fish pond by the cafeteria. My only bad memory was that the place always seemed to be swarming with wasps!

I hope that life has treated you kindly and thank you for some fond memories!

thank you for those kind words about myself and my friend Mo (her surname was "Thatcher" - but she was, and probably still is a lovely girl) The last time we met was in 1976 in an hotel in Chigago, where I was living and Mo was flying with BA. Life has been both varied and good. I am living in my beloved Scotland, have just retired after a stint as a member of the Scottish Parliament - as Chief Whip of the Scottish National Party -she who must be obeyed our members said
I have a son, who lives and works in Shanghai and a daughter who is a BBC journalist
