It's really just an introductory letter in the hope Phelim will get in contact with us, and invites him to check out this thread, the facebook and Bebo groups on Mosney, and the online petition.

I'm delighted to say that the number of signatures on the petition has almost DOUBLED in the last few days, and is now 719.

Also the number of people in the facebook group has increased massively to 2800.

When I wrote the letter to Phelim McCloskey I mentioned in it that there were 2,323 members on the facebook group, and 445 signatures on the petition (which was true at the time, only a week ago.)

I think he'll be pleasantly surprised when he takes a look!!!

Tomorrow the Irish Times newspaper will be publishing a story on the future of the Mosney Camp and our campaign to preserve it (www.irishtimes.com)

I've searched the Irish Times for the past three days but haven't found anything about Mosney.

Sorry, that's what I was originally told. I have since found out that the article has been delayed as there hasn't been enough space in the paper but I have been assured it should still appear very soon.

At the end of the day it's up to the editor when it goes in (and even if it does) but I'll post another update when I hear more.

Sorry to say I never did get a response to my letter to Phelim McCloskey. I'm disappointed but what can you do?

Hi. Just seen your threads yesterday. Shame I didnt see these before. Would love to see the camp re open. I spent many years as a child there. We still have the runners up bonny baby trophy my little brother won. We have hundreds of old photos of the place also. What a truely spectacular place it was. We would love the pool. There would be loads of people in there. I remember well the coca cola slide in the pool and the green platform we would all jump off. They put in a slide which went underground in the latter years. It went to a kind of cave setting under the main pool. Was great fun.In the bar you could see the the legs of people in the pool through the glass. That particular bar was adults only by night. All the kids would be in the ballroom for the show. I remember we all had glass bottles and a penny to sing some song. I cant remember the song though Tthen off to the cinema for the film. James Bond I recall. lol A fantastic place. I get emotional thinking back. Oh the row boats in the lough. And that big ride in the funfair. Almost everyone got sick after it ha ha. It was so magical getting the train from Cork to Dublin. Then over to the mosney train station. It would be a travesty if this beautiful place was not preserved. Its got huge potential. Just thinking also. With the risks associated with flying this year and a lot of people opting to holiday at home the place would have made a fortune.

Mosney is on the front page of the Irish Times today at http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...273904657.html saying that 150 asylum seekers are being moved to new accommodation as a cost-cutting exercise.
